The operation of finding a difference or the process of taking away one fraction from another to find the quantity left; represented by the symbol .
To subtract fractions, first, change all denominators of the fractions to their lowest common denominator (LCD). Then, subtract fractions by simply subtracting the numerators while keeping the denominator the same. For example, 1/2  1/8 = 4/8  1/8 = (41)/8 = 3/8.
