addition (of fractions)
The process of combining two or more fractions into one equivalent number (called sum), represented by the symbol +.

To report the numerical value in fraction form, first, change all denominators of the fractions to be added to their lowest common denominator (LCD). Then, add fractions by simply adding the numerators together while keeping the denominator the same.

For example,

symbol space1/5 + 2/5 = (1+2)/5 = 3/5
symbol space1/2 + 1/8 = 4/8 + 1/8 = (4+1)/8 = 5/8.
