triangular number
Any number that will form an equilateral triangle when arranged using the equal number of dots. The "reverse process," arranging dots to form an equilateral triangle and then counting the number, will help reveal the set of triangular numbers, which is {l, 3, 6, 10, . . .}.

The nth triangular number can be calculated using n(n + 1)/2.
