A square matrix which has only zero entries either above (lower triangular matrix) or below (upper triangular matrix) the main diagonal (from upper left to lower right). When all entries, except the main diagonal entries, are zero, the matrix is a diagonal matrix.
The determinant of a triangular matrix equals the product of its diagonal elements.
