series
The sum of all the terms of a given sequence.

A series is said to be convergent when the limit of the sum is a finite number, as in 1 + 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + . . .

A series is said to be divergent when the limit of the sum is infinite, as in 1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + . . .
