maximum point
A point on a graph where the value of a function is greater than that of the surrounding points.

If the graph is a smooth and continuous curve, the maximum point is a turning point. The slope of the graph changes continuously from positive to zero, then to negative.

If there is a higher value elsewhere on the graph, this maximum point is a local maximum (or relative maximum). Otherwise, it is an absolute maximum.
