digit
A symbol used to construct a number. For example, the number 121 has three digits. The decimal number system uses ten digits, 0 through 9, whereas the binary (base two) system uses only two, 0 and 1, and the hexadecimal system has 16 symbols, 0 to 9 and A to F.
