central tendency
One of three measures (mean, median, and mode) in statistics designed to indicate the place where the largest number of items concentrate on a distribution curve.

When studying the outcome of an exam, the measure "mean" can be used to represent the average score the whole class had. The next measure "median" shows the score that divides the class, that is, half the students in the class had scores above this measure and the other half below this measure. If more students had a specific score than any other score, it is the mode.
