arithmetic mean

Also called mean or average. The arithmetic mean is the average of a set of n numbers, a_{1}, a_{2}, a_{3}, . . ., a_{n}, obtained by adding all the numbers and dividing by n.
(arithmetic mean) = (a_{1}+a_{2}+a_{3}+ . . . +a_{n})/n This is one way to find a representative value for a set of numbers. As a result, we only need to work with one number (the arithmetic mean) instead of a larger data set when it is appropriate to do so.
