arithmetic mean
Also called mean or average. The arithmetic mean is the average of a set of n numbers, a1, a2, a3, . . ., an, obtained by adding all the numbers and dividing by n.

    (arithmetic mean) = (a1+a2+a3+ . . . +an)/n

This is one way to find a representative value for a set of numbers. As a result, we only need to work with one number (the arithmetic mean) instead of a larger data set when it is appropriate to do so.
